Minimization of Voltage Harmonic Distortion of Synchronous Generators under Non-Linear Loading via Modulated Field Current

The synchronous generators (SGs) supplying non-linear loads have harmonically distorted terminal voltages. Hence, these voltages adversely affect the performance parameters of supplied such as power factor, current distortion, losses, and efficiency. To mitigate harmonic currents, passive active filters are generally employed. However, cause resonance problems, while can high costs. On other hand, in several recent studies to reduce SG’s voltage which depends on constructional design under no-loading condition, conventional DC excitation has been modulated with AC components. These field modulation methods computational complexity, require extra hardware for their implementation. In present paper, firstly, reduction distortion SG loading conditions, validity technique is investigated. numerical results show that by using method, rated total be reduced from 18% 11%. Secondly, provide a efficient low-cost tool optimal modulation, minimizes an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based model proposed. Finally, integration ANSYS Maxwell, Simplorer, MATLAB/Simulink software, implementation developed demonstrated construction optimally current.
